In this regard, the works of three linguists stand out: Professor Felix K. Ameka, Professor E. Kweku Osam and Professor Kofi K. Saah. Beginning from the early 1990’s, each of these researchers shed significant light on the syntax and semantics of Kwa languages. Professor Ameka has been one of the most prolific writers on the syntax and semantics of Kwa languages. His research on Ewe and other Kwa languages include temporal relations, information structure, expressions of motion and space, interjections, and language documentation and description, to mention a few. Professor Osam can be recognized for his seminal work on serial verb constructions and grammatical relations in Akan. His research on serial verb constructions has become an influential reference for mutliverbal constructions across and beyond Kwa. Professor Saah has researched extensively on the syntax of relative clauses, wh-questions and focus constructions. Significantly, these three stalwarts of Kwa syntax and semantics have trained and mentored dozens of linguists who continue to do impactful research on Kwa languages.</p><p style="color: rgb(85, 85, 85); font-family: ProximaNova-Regular, "Helvetica Neue", Helvetica, Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 13px; margin: 0px 0px 10px;" class="">The workshop is aimed at taking stock of the gains and impact of the research of the honorees on the syntax and semantics of Kwa languages and exploring the prospects for current and future research.
