<div dir="auto">Thanks to Guillaume and Mark for pointing that out. On the other hand, it seems to me that the two languages (Japhug and Abor) you mentioned are within or adjacent to Mandarin-speaking region (including Southwestern Mandarin), in common with the MNEA languages I mentioned. Could it be that this polysemy is caused by the contact between Mandarin and its neighboring languages?</div>

<div>The colexification of 'put' and 'release' is not restricted to this particular area; it is also found in at least some Gyalrong languages further south (Japhug <i>ta</i> 'put' can be used in the sense of 'release, let ... get away with it' ="放过"), and I would not be surprised if it is found in other languages of Western Sichuan.<br /></div>

<p class="x_MsoNormal"><span lang="EN-US" xml:lang="EN-US">The MNEA area I propose includes northern China, Mongolia, Korea, but not Japan, Sakhalin, and Russian Far East. One feature of this area, which I am currently working on with my colleagues, is that the languages spoken there colexify `to put’ and `to release’, as shown in the attached map.<u></u><u></u></span></p>
