The Department of Linguistics in the College of Arts and Sciences at The Ohio State University (USA) seeks to hire an Assistant Professor specializing in linguistic fieldwork and researching an indigenous language, with a commitment to engagement with that
language’s community of speakers. The position is partially funded by Ohio State’s Global Arts and Humanities Discovery Theme, a significant faculty hiring investment in key thematic areas in which the university can build on its culture of academic collaboration
to make a global impact.

We welcome applications from specialists on indigenous signed or spoken languages anywhere in the world. We are particularly interested in applicants whose research focuses on languages often excluded from social institutions, associated with racial or ethnic
minority communities, and/or subject to language loss. While we are interested in candidates with the promise of or expertise in conducting fieldwork and community engagement, we also value contributions toward development of documentary resources and advancement
of linguistic theory (in any subfield). The department is committed to diversity, equity, inclusion, and outreach and we especially welcome applications from under-represented scholars, including members of the linguistic communities they study.
