The Department of Comparative Language Science of the University of Zurich is inviting applications for a 4-year Postdoctoral Researcher position associated with the Swiss National Science Foundation-funded
research project 'Reference production and the evolution of agreement', to commence in April 2023. The project is to investigate reference production across diverse languages through corpus-based quantitative methods with the goal of discerning functional,
structural and other factors impacting the use of person forms. In doing so, the project seeks to identify factors underlying the emergence of person agreement that have for a long time been related to increased use of overt person forms at an early stage
of the putative process of grammaticalisation. While the project will seek to include a wide range of typologically diverse languages, Iranian and Oceanic languages form a special focus of interest. For more information on the project, see
