    <p>subordinative conjunctions can be enclitic in Latin and certainly
      other Indo-European languages. Thus, they do not need to introduce
      their clause, but may follow its first constituent.</p>
    <p>The way in which Persian <i>ke</i> became an information
      structure marker is probably ascertainable by inspecting texts of
      earlier stages of the language. In contemporary Portuguese, the
      (cognate) subordinator <i>que</i> is a component of the
      expression <i>é que</i> (copula subordinator) which (among other
      things) follows the focus of a clause.</p>
