I am currently writing a paper on precautioning clauses. These are constructions that convey the idea that a certain situation is performed in order to prevent an undesrirable situation from occurring (Angelo & Schultze-Berndt 2016; Lichtenberk 1995; Luk 2023;
Verstraete 2014). In particular, I am exploring whether languages use the same clause-linking device in the following constructions:</div>
<ol start="1" data-editing-info="{"applyListStyleFromLevel":false,"orderedStyleType":1}" style="list-style-type: decimal;">
<li style="font-family: Georgia, serif; font-size: 12pt; color: rgb(0, 0, 0);">

</li><li style="font-family: Georgia, serif; font-size: 12pt; color: rgb(0, 0, 0);">
<div class="elementToProof"><i>He grabbed my arm to prevent me </i><b><i>from </i>
</b><i>falling</i>. </div>
</li><li style="font-family: Georgia, serif; font-size: 12pt; color: rgb(0, 0, 0);">
<div class="elementToProof"><i>The problem was solved </i><b><i>by </i></b><i>leaving the energy in its original form. </i></div>
</li></ol>
<div id="Signature" class="elementToProof">
<div style="font-family: Georgia, serif; font-size: 12pt; color: rgb(0, 0, 0);">So far, languages in which the three constructions are realized with the same clause-linking device are attested in Mesoamerica in my sample. </div>
