Dear Sebastian,

some notes on the history of interlinear glossing are in
Lehmann, Christian 2004, “Interlinear morphemic glossing.” Lehmann,
Christian et al. (eds.), Morphologie. Ein internationales
Handbuch zur Flexion und Wortbildung. 2. Halbband. Berlin
& New York: W. de Gruyter (Handbücher zur Sprach- und
Kommunikationswissenschaft, 17.2); 1834-1857 [online]

Although medieval monks did, in fact, extensive glossing of Latin
texts whose understanding was fading, I am afraid the layout of
those glosses does not meet the conditions of your definition.

Best,
Christian
