Potsdam Typology Lab (PTL) hosted at the Chair of Slavic
linguistics (U Potsdam) will fund one-year scholarship starting in
2027 (the exact dates are flexible). During this time the
successful applicant will have to submit one research paper and
one grant application for a project to be carried out at the PTL
if successful (any funding body, any programme). I do not
request moving to Potsdam during the scholarship but active
participation in our weekly
colloquium during the teaching time (Vorlesungszeit) is very
much expected for the interaction with, and integration into, our
team.

The preferred topics are those of PTL: typological studies in
argument marking, in verbal morphology, in stability of
grammatical categories through time; studies in areal linguistics
(new methods; theoretical contributions: what is an area? is there
such a thing as a sprachbund and, if yes, how it should be
defined); corpus-based methods in typology or areal linguistics;
approaches to explain languistic diversity (here we focus
primarily on dialectology in Potsdam Slavic Variation Lab, but
since dialectology and typology can inform each other here, both
subdisciplines are very welcome); intradisciplinary research
combining efficiency / language processing / psycholinguistics
with typology.

Application process

I would like the application process to be as easy and friendly
as possible for both parts. So, at this moment, I am just asking
to send me only your expression of interest, that is, an email
with just 1-2 sentences indicating the topic of your potential
research at PTL until July 20, 2026 (please make sure I
confirmed you the receipt thereof). No more than that. I
will discuss the candidates with my colleagues internally and then
ask just 2-3 candidates to submit a one-page application.

The scholarship is 2.200 euro per month; plus there will be some
funding available for conference trips.

Talk to me in Lyon if you have questions.
