The National Science Foundation is seeking applicants for a
one-year appointment as Program Director for Linguistics, to serve in
that position while the current Program Director, Paul Chapin, is on
sabbatical leave.  The appointment will be approximately from August
1996 to August 1997, with exact beginning and ending dates to be
negotiated.
 
The Program Director for Linguistics is responsible for
administering the review of research proposals in linguistics and the
language sciences which are submitted to the National Science
Foundation, for recommending and documenting actions on the proposals
reviewed, for dealing with administrative matters relating to active
NSF grants, and for maintaining regular contact with the research
community and providing advice and consultation to persons requesting
it.
 
The National Science Foundation is located in Arlington,
Virginia, immediately across the Potomac River from Washington, D.C.
The metropolitan Washington area, besides being the seat of the U. S.
Government, is noted as a cultural center and as a growing center of
hi-tech industry.  A wide variety of types of housing is available
within close proximity to the NSF offices.
 
Applicants must have a Ph.D. in linguistics or a related
discipline, and must be active in scientific research on language. Six
or more years of research experience beyond the Ph.D. is required for
appointment as Program Director.  Salary is negotiable, and is
comparable with academic salaries at major U.S. institutions.

To sincere job-seekers:
 
We are now looking for ESL instructors to teach Laboratory English classes
or English conversation classes at Yeungnam University's Foreign Langauge
Institute, starting March 1, 1996. The instructor will teach 20 hours per
week, usually four to six hours a day, Monday through Friday, during the
contract period. The instructor will be provided with a furnished apartment.
The annual salary will be 13,000,000 -- 18,000,000 Korean Won. To apply for
