Subject: Position, Language Acquisition
Full Professor of Developmental Psychology, School of Psychology,
University of Wales, Bangor. Further applications are invited for this
recently established Professorship. The successful candidate will be
expected to provide research leadership and foster research excellence,
preferably in the area of language acquisition. The Department, which
was highly rated in the most recent assessment (Universities Funding
Council) of research in British Universities, has unique facilities for
studies in Child Psychology, including a large (70 place) Daycare Nursery
and an excellently equipped Research Centre for Child Development.
Since our main aim in making this appointment is to develop further our
research capabilities and strengths, the person appointed will not be
expected to carry a heavy administrative or teaching load but to engage
primarily in his/her own research and in promotion of the research of
others working within that particular specialism. Our intention is to have
the successful candidate in the post by 1st January 1996.

Applications are invited for appointment to the Foundation Chair in the
Department of Linguistics and Applied Linguistics. The University seeks a
scholar of international distinction in teaching and research in one or more
branches of linguistics and/or applied linguistics, who has a broad vision
of the range of enquiry within both disciplines, and who will provide
academic leadership in the Department. The Foundation

Candidates should have a strong commitment to research within some area of
Linguistic Variation and/or Sociolinguistics and should have a sound
background in modern linguistic theory. Preference may be given to
candidates who specialise in languages taught within the department
(Chinese, English, French, German, Hindi) or whose interests combine areas
of both sociolinguistic variation and theoretical linguistics, but other

The Department of Modern Languages and Literatures at the
University of Wisconsin-Whitewater would like to invite
applicants for the following position:
Assistant Professor in Applied Linguistics/ESL, full-time tenure-
track appointment to begin August 1995. Responsible for planning
and developing an ESL program; duties include teaching Academic
ESL, TESOL methods, Second Language Acquisition, and introductory
courses in Linguistics. Expertise in CAI and other relevant
instructional technology desirable. Ph.D. preferred, ABD considered.
