Specialist in French/Haitian Creole. Appointment at the Assistant
Professor level most probable. (Candidates at other ranks will be
considered.) Tenure track position at our North Miami Campus to teach
language courses in Haitian Creole, French, and advanced courses in the
candidate's specialty. Ph.D. required. Native/near-native command of
Creole and French. Specialty in linguistics preferred; specialization in

Software Engineer - Natural Language Technologies
CompuServe's Natural Language Technologies department is seeking a
software engineer to design and develop PC-based natural language
software applications for use within the CompuServe online information
service. The software engineer will be responsible for development,
design and maintenance of robust applications and tools for
information retrieval and management, text database processing, text
summarization, message extraction and machine translation. The
software engineer will also perform quality assurance testing
and verification of natural language processing software.
Qualifications
- B.S. Computer Science with significant additional coursework in linguistics
or computational linguistics
- Strong PC orientation and development experience
- Competence in C++ programming language
- Demonstrated knowledge of natural language processing techniques
- Familiarity with current research in natural language processing
- Familiarity with online environments
- Demonstrated talent for innovation, both in program design and in
identifying new natural language software applications
- Ability to solve problems independently and manage time effectively
- Strong interpersonal and communications skills

POSITION DESCRIPTION
Senior Professor of English Linguistics (rank to be determined).
The University of Montana has a tenure line opening for a linguist
with qualifications in applied linguistics with a subfield specialty
in second language acquisition. An applicant should have a background
in theoretical and/or descriptive linguistics and be able to teach in
both phonology and syntax. We are looking particularly for someone
able to work in inter-departmental graduate programs and able to teach
English language pedagogy and TESL/TEFL methodology. We would like
applications from linguists with specialties in computer assisted
language instruction, Slavic Linguistics, and/or English Language
curriculum development. Salary approximately $38,000-40,000.
The successful applicant must have a demonstrated ability in undergraduate
and graduate teaching and a significant publication record. The position
requires someone able to work harmoniously in a growing inter-departmental

In my department there will be an opening for a position of "Lektor",
beginning this fall. Job duties include mostly language instruction
(i.e. teaching "general language courses", grammar, translation
German - English, phonetics, etc.; also courses on American culture /
history / etc.).
Applicants must be native speakers of English resident in an
English-speaking country before taking this job. They must have at
least a Master`s degree in English, linguistics, German, or possibly
some other related field (Ph.D. or ABD status would be a plus); they should have
some formal training in
TESOL. Also, some knowledge of German is mandatory (as duties include
teaching translation from German on an advanced level).
The successful candidate will be given a two-year contract, renewable
for another three years afterwards, but not beyond those five years.
The salary is calculated on the basis of the BATIIa scale of the
German civil service. Salary and fringe benefits to some extent
depend on age and marital status but can be expected to be in the
range of some 50.000 Deutsche Mark net per annum.
