Research Associate to undertake research into Second Language Acquisition.
Applicants should hold a doctorate, together with qualifications in
Linguistics/psycholinguistics, and a good research publications record.
 
The pensionable stipend for a Research Associate is #15,566.00 - #19,326.00
and for a Senior Research Associate is #17,813.00 - #25,735.00 (under review).
The level of appointment will depend on the age and experience of the
applicant.

The person appointed to this post will be expected to undertake research,
resulting in publication, in the field of Second Language Acquisition
(preferably in the areas of syntax and/or semantics, or in the area
of comprehension) and to develop research projects in Second
Language Acquisition together with other colleagues in the Centre.
 
The duties of the post will include developing an 8 session option course
for the MPhil in English and Applied Linguistics on Second Language Acquisition
(which should include a substantial element on approaches within the
Principles and Parameters framework). The person appointed may be
asked to contribute up to 40 hours a year of formal teaching.
In addition, the officer would be expected to undertake
examining related to the courses taught on the M Phil, and to
undertake the supervision of research students working in the area of SLA.
 
At the end of the initial three years' appointment, the possibility would arise
of appointment to an established post of Assistant Director of Research,
salary range #17,813.00 - #25,735, which in a further five years
carries the possibility
of appointment to the retirement age. Assistant Directors of Research with
substantial and distinguished research publication may be nominated, in a
University-wide competition, to be appointed as Reader (salary #32,132.00).

Applications are invited for a Foundation Lectureship in the Department of
Linguistic and International Studies at the University of Surrey,
Guildford, Surrey, UK.    The scheme is intended to provide outstanding
scholars with the opportunity to concentrate on research for an initial
three year period following appointment.  Salary on the scale 14756-25735
pounds per annum.
 
The successful applicant would join a small team of linguists, including
professors Carol Sanders (French) and Greville Corbett (Russian).  An
important responsibility would be to coordinate an  MA Linguistics
programme, and to contribute a research methods seminar to it.  Candidates
with expertise in French Sociolinguistics or Russian Morphology are
particularly welcome.
 
This post is part of a university-wide initiative to recruit excellent
researchers and not all the potential posts will necessarily be filled.

       testing the language skills of teachers entering requalification
