To the List:

Is anyone aware of any studies being done on the forced evolution of a
language and how it might effect its culture (e.g., the use in the US of
*politically correct* language)?

I am doing a graduate paper on Language and Reality using the language of
the politically correct to determine cultural change.

Lest anyone think I have not done my homework, I would be willing to
supply my preliminary biblio.

Subject: contextualized centences on the corpora?

Hi every one. I am in need of contextualized sentences
that contain almost every TENSE in English. Since it
is a boring job to search for such sentences in books,
I need some corpora references which include such
sentences. I need the data for my PhD pilot study.

Please send your responses to me at the email address:

Thanks every one
Reza Hashemi

Subject: Software for French syntax

Hello,

I try to find a software which counts french syntactic categories in a
text. For example : number of verbs, subjects or direct objects.
Please could you give me some information about it.
Thanks.

A colleague would like to include in her references for students accessible
treatments of the theory of speech acts. She is only familiar with the older
 standard works on the topic.

Does anyone know a couple of books or papers that would be
- a fairly comprehensive survey
- taking into account recent developments
- possibly interesting to non-specialists (e.g. students of literature)
- preferably in English, or French, or Italian, or Spanish ?

Thanks in advance for any information on this.
