This is a reminder that the deadline for the tenure-track job at UCLA
is only 2 weeks away.  A copy of the original notice follows.
 
The UCLA Department of Linguistics seeks to fill a tenure-track Assistant
Professor position starting Fall 1996, in ONE of the following areas:
 
(a) Language Processing or Language Acquisition or Neurolinguistics;
    with expertise in linguistic theory and experimental methodology.
 
(b) Phonology, with strength in morphology, phonetics, or one of the
    areas mentioned under (a).
 
Candidates with background in a language area (in particular, American
Indian or African languages) are encouraged to apply.
 
Applicants should send a written letter of application, together with
a copy of their CV, and a sample of written work to:

Position Available:  ASL Lecturer
University of New Mexico
 
 
The Department of Linguistics at the University of New Mexico announces an
opening for the position of Lecturer to commence in August 1996, pending
budget capability.  The main responsibility for this full-time, permanent
position  is to teach undergraduate courses in American Sign Language
(ASL).
 
Minimum Qualifications:  Master's Degree; native or near-native ASL skills;
bicultural with experience in interacting comfortably in  both the Deaf and
hearing communities; and experience in teaching ASL.
 
Desirable Qualifications:  Significant graduate-level education in
Linguistics, ASL Instruction, Deaf Studies, or related fields; ability to
teach other courses in the Interpreter Education Program, such as Deaf
Culture; ability to work effectively with students and colleagues; ability
and desire to work with program faculty in developing a state-of-the-art
program in Interpreter Education and ASL instruction.

Full-Time Teaching Position Available
at Kochi University
Japan
 
The Program of Intercultural Communication at the Faculty of Humanities and
Economics, Kochi University is looking for applicants for a
position of kyoju (full professor) or jokyoju (associate professor)
beginning on September 1st, 1996.
 
Qualifications:
(1)   Native speaker of English
(2)   Ph.D. (preferred) in TESOL/TEFL/Linguistics,
Cross-cultural Communication, Anthropology, or related fields  (3)
Publications (minimum of 5)
(4) Teaching experience at university level
 
Duties:  Teaching load of 6-8 courses (12-16 hours) , including English,
Public Communication, Intercultural Communication, and Comparative Study of
 Cultures, at undergraduate and graduate levels.
 
Contract:  Three-year contract beginning on September 1, 1996.  Renewable.
 
Salary: Approximately \4,000,000 - \8,000,000 annually, based on
qualifications and teaching experience
