Dear colleagues,

I was away on vacation when the obituary for Otto Christian Dahl was broadcast
on the LINGUIST List (Vol-6-1610, 14 Nov 1995).

For those who wish to know more about his work as a passionate and eminent
linguist, a selfless missionary of his faith, and the probably foremost
authority and expert on the linguistics of Madagascar, I have prepared an as
complete bibliography as I could.
It is now mounted on my Web homepage at:

           http://calamity.rz-berlin.mpg.de/~waruno/

You can also load it directly to your screen, the URL of the document is:

   http://calamity.rz-berlin.mpg.de/~waruno/LingStuff/WM_Biblio/Dahl_OCh.html

Many of us saw him for the last time at the 7th International Conference on
Austronesian Linguistics, witnessing him at the age of 91, still braving the
troublesome journey to deliver a paper on "Predicate, Subject and Topic in
Malagasy".

We shall indeed miss him very much, professionally, and personally.

Dear Colleagues,

Starting in January 1996, Glot International will have a column for
reviews of various computer hardware/software relevant to linguistics.
A couple of examples are provided below. We hope that this column will
help our fellow linguists take advantage of the existing computer
technology in their research. At the moment, there is no restriction on
the style of these reviews. EVERYONE IS WELCOME TO SUBMIT REVIEW
ARTICLES to the following address:

If you have any questions, please contact Yafei Li. We look forward to
your contributions. If you want to know more about the journal itself,
send e-mail to its editor, Rint Sybesma, at this address:

- -----Example 1 (Linguistically oriented software)--------

You're using a specialized sound-analyzing program in your phonetics
course and would like to comment on its capability, usability, and
problems.

- -----Example 2 (Linguistically relevant software)--------

You set up a Web server for your linguistics courses with the NCSA
httpd program and you want to discuss how easy the setup process is
(and to advertise your Web location :-).
