SCHOLARSHIPS
 
A limited number of scholarships is available, on a competitive
basis, for students who are making presentations at SS11. A
scholarship will cover registration and accommodation costs at
the standard rates. Applications to the organising committee,
with personal details and details of your place and area of
study, plus abstract, before April 1st 1996.
 
THE FULL SS11 PROGRAMME
 
The full conference programme, with participants list, travel
details and tourist information, will be distributed to
registered participants in July 1996.

CALL FOR PAPERS
 
The new deadline for submissions is end of February 1996.
 
Sociolinguistics Symposium 11 welcomes submissions in any area
of sociolinguistics.
 
The selection committee will particularly welcome individual
paper-submissions which contribute to, or seek to establish, new
sub-fields of sociolinguistic research, or which forge new
connections between established approaches.
 
CRITERIA FOR SELECTION
 
Originality; clarity; significance of (anticipated) findings or
interpretations; contribution to sociolinguistic theory;
contribution to new interdisciplinary areas of sociolinguistics.
 
All submissions will be peer-reviewed, anonymously, by members
of the organising committee.
 
HOW TO SUBMIT
 
Submissions by hard-copy mail only (not e-mail).
Each submission should include four copies of:
 
-    a cover sheet with (i) the author's name, address
     (including either e-mail or fax, if available, and
     telephone number) and affiliation; (ii) the title; (iii)
     the category of the submission (paper; suggested
     contribution to a particular workshop; poster
     presentation); and
 
-    an abstract of about 200 words, strictly limited to one
     double-spaced page, including a list of up to 5 keywords.

PREPARATIONS FOR YOUR TALK
 
The size of audiences in parallel sessions is unpredictable, but
we ask you to prepare 50 copies of any materials you need to hand
out in support of your presentation. Audio-visual materials will
need to be suitable for use in a large lecture theatre. OHP and
boards will be available in all rooms. AV and computer equipment
by pre-arrangement.
 
Information about poster-sessions will be sent to those whose
proposals for posters have been accepted.
