The Department of Languages and Literature, and the Linguistics Program at
the University of Utah invite applications for two tenure-track positions
in applied linguistics beginning in September 1996.  We seek the following:
 
1.  An Assistant or Associate Professor who will be responsible for
developing a Bilingual Education/ESL K-12 teacher training program in
cooperation with the University's School of Education.  The program will
train teachers to meet the educational needs of a large, linguistically
diverse school-age population.  Fluency in Spanish and a strong background
in linguistics are required.
 
2.  An Assistant Professor who will be responsible for the training and
supervision of teaching assistants in the Department of Languages and
Literature, and curriculum design for basic and intermediate second
language instruction.  Near native proficiency in Spanish or French and a
strong background in linguistics are required.
 
In addition, candidates must have research or teaching specialities in one
or more of the following:  computer-assisted language learning, phonology,
psycholinguistics, and/or introductory linguistics.  Ph.D. in Applied
Linguistics or in a related field is required by the time of appointment.
