Full-Time Teaching Position Available
 
The Department of English at Fukui University invites applications for the
position of a Full-Time Professor.  Employment will commence on April 1, 1996.
 
Title of Position: Associate Professor or Lecturer
 
Duties: To teach courses in American Literature, Comparative Cultures, English
Composition, Oral Communication, and English as a Foreign Language.  Six
90-minute classes per week
 
Field of Speciality: American Literature, British Literature, Comparative
Cultures, Intercultural Communication or TESOL (Teaching English to Speakers of
Other Languages)
 
Qualifications:
(1) Master's Degree or above
(2) Native speaker of English
(3) 35 years old or below (as of April 1, 1996)
 
Terms of Employment for a Foreign Professor: As a rule, the period of
employment for a foreign professor is three years.  The contract can be renewed
every three years.  Extention is subject to review by the staff of English
department.
 
Salary: Approximately 4,000,000 yen to 5,000,000 yen per annum, including
taxes, based on qualifications and teaching experience.
 
Benefits: (1) Moving expenses and travel costs incurred in taking up
appointment will be paid based on the most economical and normal route and
method of travel whether by rail, sea, or air.  In cases where the professor is
accompanied by family dependents at the time of taking up appointment, the
travel costs of spouse and children will also be covered.
(2) Subsidy for housing will be paid.  The maximum monthly amount payable is
27,000 yen.
(3) Commuting allowance for a person using public transportation will be paid.
The maximum monthly amount payable is 45,000 yen.
(4) Medical insurance will be provided for the professor and his/her family.
Approximately 4% of gross salary will go to insurance fees; the remainder of
cost is borne by the employer.
(5) Approximately 9% of gross salary will go to pension fund; the
(6) Retirement allowance is paid only on retirement.  The amount paid is
calculated as a proportionate retirement allowance payment based on the monthly
salary at the time of retirement, the number of years of service, and the
reason for retirement.

The UCLA Department of Linguistics seeks to fill a tenure-track Assistant
Professor position starting Fall 1996, in ONE of the following areas:
 
(a) Language Processing or Language Acquisition or Neurolinguistics;
    with expertise in linguistic theory and experimental methodology.
 
(b) Phonology, with strength in morphology, phonetics, or one of the
    areas mentioned under (a).
 
Candidates with background in a language area (in particular, American
Indian or African languages) are encouraged to apply.
