				SECOND CALL FOR PAPERS

DAARC96 - Discourse Anaphora and Anaphor Resolution Colloquium
		Lancaster University, 17-18th July, 1996

Anaphora and anaphor resolution has received a great deal of attention
from workers in linguistics, computational linguistics, artificial
intelligence and information retrieval for a number of decades. This
aspect of natural language has proved a major challenge for all of
these fields, and a great many differing theories and solutions have
been proposed and implemented with varying degrees of success. A need
clearly exists for workers in the field of anaphora and anaphor
resolution to meet. Our hope is that this meeting will allow all of the
different strands of work on anaphora to be identified, with a view to
producing an up-to-date review of the field that incorporates the many
changes that have taken place in this field in recent years.

For this reason, a Colloquium will take place on 17th and 18th July,
1996 at Lancaster University, UK. Papers are requested for
presentation on all aspects of anaphora and anaphor resolution. The
following research areas are of particular interest, but do not
constitute an exhaustive list:

corpus-based studies of anaphora in natural language, statistical
approaches to anaphor resolution, cognitive and psychological perspectives,
discourse and text-processing perspectives, information retrieval and other
computer applications, pragmatics and anaphor resolution, and
linguistic-theoretical approaches.

Papers reporting work on anaphora in any language are welcome.
Research may be work in progress, or work that has already been
completed. Please send abstracts to a member of the DAARC96 Organizing
Committee at one of the addresses given below. Abstracts may be sent
either electronically, by email or fax, or by traditional surface mail.
Abstracts should be at least 100 words in length, though the upper
limit is at authors' discretion. Full papers may be as long or as
short as authors wish, but we recommend that they be approximately 8-10
pages in length.

Abstracts should arrive at Lancaster by 1st December, 1995, and
notification will be sent by 12th January, 1996. Draft versions of
full papers should arrive by 30th April, 1996. The proceedings of the
colloquium will be published, initially as a Special Edition of the
UCREL Technical Papers Series.

Current fees for the colloquium are as follows:

FULL RESIDENTIAL FEE: 120 POUNDS STERLING
STUDENT RESIDENTIAL FEE:	80 POUNDS STERLING
NON-RESIDENTIAL FEE: 50 POUNDS STERLING

The International Committee on Computational Linguistics invites
the submission of papers for Coling 96, the 16th International
Conference on Computational Linguistics, in Copenhagen, Denmark.

Topics of Interest:
Papers are invited on substantial, original and unpublished
research on all aspects of computational linguistics, including,
but not limited to, the following.

 syntax
 semantics
 phonetics
 phonology
 morphology
 discourse
 pragmatics
 quantitative linguistics
 corpus linguistics
 mathematical linguistics
 cognitive linguistics
 parsing
 generation
 language understanding
 discourse processing
 speech analysis/synthesis
 computational lexicon
 large text corpora
 computational terminology
 text data base
 information retrieval
 knowledge representation for NLP
 automatic abstraction
 knowledge acquisition from corpora
 machine translation
 machine aids for translation
 dialogue
 multi-media systems involving language
 man-machine interface
 hardware/software for NLP

Requirement for Submission:
Papers should describe unique work: They should emphasize
completed work rather than intended work: A paper accepted for
presentation at the Coling cannot be presented or have been
presented at any other meeting with publicly available published
proceedings. Papers that are being submitted to other
conferences must reflect this fact on the title page.

Format for Submission:
Authors should submit preliminary versions of their papers, not
to exceed 4000 words (exclusive of references). Papers outside
the specified length and formatting requirements are subject to
rejection without review. Since reviewing will be "blind", the
title page of the paper should omit author names and addresses.
Furthermore, self-references that reveal the authors' identity.
To identify each paper, a separate identification page should be
supplied, containing the paper's title, the name(s) of the
author(s), complete addresses, a short summary (10 lines), a word
count, and a specification of the topic area.

Submission Media:
Papers should be submitted electronically or in hard copy to the
Program Chair:
Jun-ichi TSUJII
Department of Information Science
Faculty of Science
University of Tokyo

coling96 at nttkb.ntt.jp (e-mail-address)

Electronic submission should be either self-contained Latex
source or plain text. LaTex submissions must use the COLING style
file and should not refer to any external files or styles. The
COLING style file is retrievable by anonymous ftp from cst.ku.dk,
/pub/COLING96/colsub.sty. A model submission is provided in
/pub/COLING96/modelsub.tex. Alternatively, the information can be
obtained by sending an e-mail request to coling96 at cst.ku.dk, with
the subject line containing the word "style" and "model",
respectively.

Hard copy submissions should consist of five (5) copies of the
paper and one (1) copy of the identification page. For both kinds
of submissions, if at all possible, a plain text version of the
identification page should be sent separately by electronic mail,
using the following format:

title: <title>

author: <name of first author>
address: <address of first author>

author: <name of second author>
address: <address of second author>

.....

Important Dates

Preliminary paper submission due: 15 December 1995
 Acceptance Notification: 15 March 1996
Camera Ready Copy due: 1 May 1996

Review Schedule: Papers received after 15 December will be
returned unopened. Notification of acceptance will be mailed to
the first author (or designated author) soon after receipt. All
inquiries regarding lost papers must be made by 21 January.
Camera-ready copies of final papers prepared in a double-column
format, preferably using a laser printer, must be received by
