Le Centre de Recherche Europeen de Rank Xerox, situe a
renoble, propose un poste de chercheur au sein de son equipe de
traitement automatique du langage naturel.
 
Le travail se situera dans le prolongement de nos recherches sur les
techniques a etats finis, et plus precisement sur
l'exploitation des analyses syntaxiques fournies, pour le francais,
par un pre-analyseur a large couverture.  Les domaines
d'exploration envisages couvrent entre autres la recherche
documentaire, le resume automatique, les langages
controles, l'aide a la traduction.
 
Les candidats doivent etre titulaires d'un doctorat ou posseder une
experience de haut niveau en recherche dans le domaine de la
linguistique computationnelle.  Ils doivent pouvoir faire preuve
d'autonomie, en particulier pour l'ecriture de programmes
informatiques de base.  Il est essentiel pour ce poste de faire preuve
de creativite, d'ouverture, d'interet pour les langues naturelles et
d'avoir la capacite d'interagir avec des collegues chercheurs de
cultures differentes.
 
La maitrise du francais et de l'anglais est indispensable.

The Department of Linguistics and Germanic, Slavic, Asian and African
Languages at Michigan State University invites applications for a tenure
stream position at the assistant professor level in Linguistics, pending
final approval, to begin August 1996. Research and teaching specialization
in syntax. Responsibilities include teaching graduate and undergraduate
courses. Candidates should have an interest in teaching linguistics in the
university's undergraduate program in interdisciplinary studies and
capability to teach GB/Minimalist theory particularly desirable. Ph.D. by
time of appointment. Letter of application describing research and teaching
interests, vita, and three letters of reference should be sent to George
Peters, Chair, Department of Linguistics and Germanic, Slavic, Asian and
African Languages, A-617 Wells Hall, Michigan State University, East

University of South Carolina, Department of Anthropology, anticipates
appointment of a PhD linguistic anthropologist as tenure-track Asst
Professor starting Fall 1996.  Salary competitive.  Teaching: Intro
to Cultural Anthropology, Language and Culture, as well as more
specialized undergrad and grad courses.  Work with students on field
research.  Should be well-grounded in contemporary theory on language
as a social, cultural, and interactive phenomenon; also actively involved
in field research with demonstrated ability to gather and analyze anth
data.  USC offers MA in Anthropology and PhD in Linguistics; programs
in Latin American, African, African-American, Public Health & Women's
