3rd CENTRAL EUROPEAN SUMMER SCHOOL IN GENERATIVE LINGUISTICS
                   Olomouc - Czech Republic
                   5 August - 23 August 1996
 
A generative linguistics summer school which is:
 
 high level (teachers from leading research centres)
 intensive (3 weeks of interactive learning and research)
 inexpensive (no fees, low local living costs, central  location)
 charming (small peaceful medieval city)
 
The summer school offers an intensive introduction to
generative linguistics. It will feature classes on syntax,
phonology, psycholinguistics and semantics, offering results
of the latest research, current issues and open problems,
basic philosophy, methodology.
 
The program will include (i) overviews of the current
generative theory from both general viewpoints and from the
viewpoint of specific topics; (ii) intermediate and advanced classes
focussing on current research issues. Classes will be taught in
English. The school is open to students from all over the world:
it is inexpensive enough for everybody to attend,
and it also includes discussion of Germanic, Romance,
Slavic, and other languages. There are places for 100 participants.

Fees:          There are no fees. The school is free.
Accommodation: University Residences are available:
               ca. 70$ for the three weeks, in multiple
               bed rooms. (see below for grants)
Meals:   Cheap meals available on the campus.

Grants:
Students from eastern european countries can apply for
grants (the two types of grant are not exclusive):
 
Living: accommodation and meals on-site
 
Travel: travel to and from the summer school
Recipients of  grants will have absolutely no expenses
for the summer school. Others will maximally have travel
and living costs.
 
Since the summer school will be held in English, one of the criteria
for grants is very good knowledge of English.
 
Practical Information:
All relevant information (where is Olomouc, how do I get there, etc)
will be sent upon receipt of the registrations.

Location:
The courses will be held at the University of Amsterdam, in the P.C.
Hoofthuis, Spuistraat 134, and the Bungehuis, Spuistraat 210-212. Details
will follow after registration.
 
Credit:
Full credit (120 hrs.) is given if the course is completed with a paper or
other assignment. In other cases people can obtain certificates on the basis
of participation (40 hrs.), which may require a short assignment.
 
Costs:
Admission is free for those students (AIO's/OIO's) which are officially
affiliated with an institute that participates in LOT or have an agreement
with LOT. Others are requested to pay Dfl. 350,= a week not including lodging.
 
Lodging:
The local organiser has made reservations for lodging for those LOT
AIO's/OIO's who need to stay in Amsterdam. Those who wish to make use of
this arrangement should fill out the separate form enclosed in this mail,
which should be sent, before May 1st, to the LOT-secretariat at the above
address. For those of you that are not officially part of LOT, the
organisation will help to find lodging. Please, also fill out the separate
form if you want to make use of this arrangement.
 
If you have made reservations for lodging and you do not make use of it, you
will be held responsible for the extra costs.
 
To reduce costs, people from Utrecht or Leiden are not entitled to the
lodging facilities.
 
Enrollments:
Enrollment forms are enclosed at the end of this message. The enrollment
forms should be returned to Utrecht before May 1st. Enrollment after this
date will endanger the possibilities of admittance to the courses. Note that
LOT AIO's/OIO's have to send a copy of the enrollment form to their graduate
program supervisor
