               SEVENTH INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE
                            ON THE
                    HISTORY OF LINGUISTICS

As previously announced, the Seventh International Conference on the
History of Linguistics (ICHoLs VII) will take place at Oxford
University, England, from Thursday 12th September to Tuesday 17th
September 1996, in association with the Henry Sweet Society for the
History of Linguistic Ideas.

The programme will include speakers from more than twenty countries,
covering a wide range of issues representing Western thought, from
classical antiquity to the present, as well as other non-European
traditions. It will open with a keynote address from Anna Morpurgo
Davies. To accommodate the scope of the papers which have been
accepted there will be three types of presentation: five further
keynote papers (one hour including discussion); approximately fifteen
plenary sessions of 30 minutes each (including discussion); and
approximately seventy papers running within parallel sessions of 30
minutes (including discussion).

Accommodation has been arranged for delegates at Keble College, and
meetings will be held either in the college itself or immediately
adjacent buildings. Contact telephone numbers and addresses can be
supplied for those who would prefer to make their own arrangements for
accommodation.

A second circular is now available and has been sent to those already
on the mailing list. It includes further details about the programme,
a list of speakers and the titles of their papers, and a booking form.
Early booking is appreciated; full payment is required by the end of
May.
