                    Call for Papers

The Second Workshop on Computational Processing of Written and Spoken
Portuguese will be held in Curitiba, Brazil, on the 22nd October,
1996. The workshop will be held in conjunction with SBIA'96 (Brazilian
Symposium of Artificial Intelligence), taking place at the same venue
from October 23 to 25.

The aim of the workshop is to provide a forum for NLP researchers
working on the Portuguese language to disseminate their current work,
exchange ideas and explore possibilities for collaboration and sharing
of resources.

Participation is open to all researchers working on Portuguese within
the framework of computational linguistics -- from Brazil, Portugal or
any other country. Submissions are encouraged from researchers at any
level, including students. The workshop is intended to promote active
participation of all attendees, through presentation or discussion.

Selected senior reasearchers will be invited to present a short
overview of current activities in NLP for Portuguese in Brazil, in
Portugal and in other countries.

Papers - in hard copy - may be submitted in Portuguese or English, and
may describe work at any stage of maturity, from work-in-progress to
concluded work. Work that has been published or formally presented at
another venue will not be excluded. Students interested in taking part
in the meeting even without a result to present should submit a short
(1/2 page) description of their interest in the field.
