Positions in (1) linguistics (subfields: morphology, semantics,
romance linguistics, applied linguistics, translation); (2) World
Francophone Literature (outside France) and postcolonial and
interdisciplinary theories
 
The Department of French at the University of Western Ontario invites
applications for two probationary appointments (tenure track) at the
rank of Assistant Professor in (1) linguistics (subfields: morphology,
semantics, romance linguistics, applied linguistics, translation). The
ideal candidate will have teaching experience, a PhD, an excellent
research and publication record in at least two of these areas; (2)
world francophone literature and theories relating to postcolonial and
interdisciplinary studies. The successful candidates will have native
or native-like fluency in French. Please send a curriculum vitae and

Postdoctoral Position (HMM analysis) available at
Dublin City University, Dublin, Ireland.

Position available to work on an R&D project funded by an
Irish government grant.
 
We are looking for a Ph.D with experience in HMM techniques
applied to speech recognition, to work on a project
in the area of keyword spotting in continuous speech.
The project will develop a Web-based application that
provides access to news broadcast material from RTE
(Irish Radio & Television), with archive search and filtering.
 
The appointee will work on the recognition/wordspotting side
of the project, and will have a reasonable understanding of
the particular problems posed by speech data, as well as
experience developing HMM-based techniques and applications.
familiarity with HTK, Waves+, and UNIX would be an advantage.
 
The position is available (initially) for a 16 month period,
starting October 1996, and will be associated with the
Schools of Computer Applications (Alex Monaghan) and
Electronic Engineering (Ronan Scaife) at DCU. There are good
chances of extension beyond 1997, depending on funding and
performance.
