Subject:  Q: usage: unsubscribe TO or FROM?
 
 
I'd like to gather some judgements on the choice of preposition with
the verb "unsubscribe". I.e.,
 
to unsubscribe TO a list *OR*
to unsubscribe FROM a list
 
The fact that "unsubscribe" is likely a neologism may affect the
choice; its derivative status may also be a determining factor.

Dear Colleagues,
 
A former student with an outstanding undergraduate record, extensive
language capabilities (English, French, Italian, Spanish, German,
Japanese) and wide TEFL experience (Japan, Russia, Poland, France,
Canada) is now seeking to enrol in a graduate programme in
cross-cultural communication.  Because neither of us has much
familiarity with programmes in this area, we are seeking advice from
Linguist subscribers concerning appropriate places to which to apply
for the 1997-98 academic year.  Since she is about to leave for
Poland, replies should be addressed to me for forwarding.  All
information and advice gratefully received.  Thanks in advance.  Doug

a student of mine asked me who "invented" the term "direct/indirect
object". I had to admit that I don't know, but maybe someone else
does?
