SHARP's Language Technology Group in Oxford (UK) has an immediate
vacancy for a computer scientist to work in the area of
Multilingual Information Retrieval in connection with the EC
funded project SPARKLE (Shallow PARsing and Knowledge Extraction
for Language Engineering).
 
Candidates should possess a first or higher degree in Computer
Science or related disciplines and between 2 to 4 years relevant
experience in a research & development laboratory.
 
The successful candidate will be working on the development of a
multilingual information retrieval system. Other duties will
include an active involvement in the creation and maintenance of
tools for acquisition of lexical knowledge from corpora.
 
A strong background in Information Retrieval and C/C++, as well
as enthusiasm and eagerness to work in a team are essential.
 
Experience with Machine Translation and Internet Application
development would be an advantage, as would knowledge of foreign
languages.
 
This position is initially made available on a two-year basis
with a possibility of extension or permanent confirmation
thereafter.
