At the Zentrum fuer Allgemeine Sprachwissenschaft in Berlin, Germany,
a full-time research position for a phonologist is open from 1. April
1997 until 31.  December 1997.  There is a possibility for a two year
extension beginning in January 1998.
 
Candidates should hold a PhD or doctorate and have a strong research
backround in phonological theory. Especially welcome are applicants
with an interest in historical phonology.  The payment is according to
the normal range for full-time researchers ("Wissenschaftliche
Mitarbeiter") in Germany, with details depending on age and marital
status. Knowledge of German is helpful but not required.  Applications
should include a CV, the names of two references,sample publications
and a short statement outlining future research plans.  The closing

There is one tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant Professor
to be filled in the Department of French, Simon Fraser University, as
of September 1, 1997.
 
In accordance with Canadian Immigration requirements, this

Qualifications:
       1. Ph.D. in French linguistics (syntax; pragmatics; semantics;
discourse analysis).  Preference will be given to candidates with an
interest in the application of linguistics to the teaching of French
as a second language. They should have a demonstrated ability to work
on joint research projects in applied linguistics and particularly in
second language acquisition.
 
       In addition to the above research and/or teaching specializations:
       2. Interest and experience in the teaching of advanced French
composition and style.
       3. Total fluency in oral and written French and English.
 
Responsibilities:
       Commensurate with a tenure-track position, including an active
research program resulting in scholarly publications, and full
participation in departmental affairs.
       Specific teaching duties will include: Introductory and
advanced undergraduate courses in all areas of French linguistics as
well as graduate courses in the candidate's area of specialization;
advanced language courses.
 
Salary: As per placement on Assistant Professor scale.
