Theme of the session: "Challenges of Minimalism"
 
Dates: March 21-23, 1997
 
Keynote Speakers: Mark Baker, McGill University
                  Denis Bouchard, UQAM
                  Howard Lasnik, University of Connecticut
The titles of the three talks will be announced in the preliminary/final
version of the OLF`97 program to be posted on the OLF web page/e-mailed
upon request around/shortly after 20 February, 1997.
 
Content of the abstracts/presentations: Versions of Minimalism (1992/3
- 1995) should be compared to earlier stages of GB theory based on
data from one, preferably two or more languages. Papers on languages
of South-East Europe would be highly appreciated. Authors are
encouraged to pursue an objective analytical assessment of theoretical
(dis)advantages and empirical justification. Well-motivated
predictions re (the yet unwritten) Chapter 5 of the Minimalist Program
are especially valued.

and 1 joint paper per author)

10-31 January, 1997: Acknowledgement of receipt of abstracts - via
e-mail, unless otherwise requested (in the ID card accompanying
submission).
 
20 January - 18 February, 1997: Reviewing and ranking of received
abstracts according to a uniform point-scale based on the content
description above.
 
Reviewers have been invited to provide FEEDBACK (including evaluative
comments, pertinent references, additional data worth considering,
(re)organization of presentations, etc.) in addition to the
point-scale SCORE, both of which will be forwarded to applicants
ANONYMOUSLY upon request.
 
18-21 February, 1997: Announcement of accepted abstracts/preliminary
conference program, followed shortly by the final version of the
program.
 
1 June, 1997: Deadline for submission of first versions of presented
papers for publication in the OLF'97 Proceedings. (The style sheet
will be available at the registration desk, on the OLF web page and
can be received via e-mail.)
 
June-September, 1997: Reviewing of received papers and submission of
revised drafts.
 
Information re accommodation, printing/photocopying services, bus
services, etc., will be posted on the OLF web page on/shortly after 10
January, 1997.

Symposium on Reflexives and Reciprocals
 
Boulder, Colorado, August 29-30, 1997
 
The aim of the symposium is twofold: a reconsideration of the formal
and functional properties of reflexive and reciprocal markers and a
discussion of languages in which the functions usually associated with
reflexive and reciprocal markers are coded by unrelated means.

The deadline for receipts of abstracts for the HPSG-4
conference has been extended until FEBUARY 15, 1997. Below
is a revised copy of the call for papers.

                Head-Driven Phrase Structure Grammar
                  1997 LSA Linguistic Institute
                    Cornell University
 
                    July 18-20, 1997
 
The 4th International Conference on HPSG will be held at
the 1997 LSA Linguistic Institute at Cornell University
on July 18-20, 1997.
 
Abstracts are solicited for 20-minute presentations
(followed by 10 minutes of discussion) which address
linguistic, foundational, or computation issues relating to
the framework of Head-Driven Phrase Structure Grammar.
Selected papers from the conference
will be published in a book.
 
 
To submit, send eight (8) copies of your abstract.
Abstracts should not exceed 5 pages in length
(single-spaced; minimum 12 pt font), including all
examples, diagrams, and references.  Please include
a 3x5 card or a title page with (i) the title of your
abstract, (ii) your name and affiliation, (iii) your
address, email address, phone and fax numbers.
 
Abstracts should be received at the address below by
FEBRUARY 15, 1997. Electronic submissions are possible in
either postscript or ASCII format. Fax submissions will
