Subject:  JOB: French Applied Linguistics
 
The French Department at Montclair State University invites applicants
for a one year full-time non-tenure track position in French at the
instructor level beginning in September 1996 (subject to available
funding). Applicants should have a background in Applied Linguistics
(structure of the language and second language pedagogy) and/or
Francophone literature. Interest in teaching all language levels
necessary. Knowledge of computer-assisted instruction
desirable. Preference will be given to applicants with a broad range
of interests. Native or near-native fluency required.
Responsibilities: teaching undergraduate courses, student advisement,
scholarly research.  Qualifications: Ph.D. or ABD in French. Teaching
experience at the university level preferred.  Demonstrated interest
in research. Salary: Instructor range 18, $27,775-30529. Applications

          Holland Institute of Generative Linguistics
 
The Holland Institute of Generative Linguistics (HIL) is a research
institute in which Leiden University, the University of Amsterdam and
the Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam collaborate.
 
HIL's research focuses on four areas of generative grammar:
syntax, semantics, morphology and phonology.
 
HIL participates in the national research school LOT and offers a
training programme for linguistic researchers. From 1 September 1996,
there are vacancies for
 
THREE GRADUATE STUDENTS
(reference number: 6-055)
 
Two graduate students can be placed at Leiden University and one at
the University of Amsterdam. The promotion research must result in a
promotion at the University of Leiden or the University of Amsterdam,
respectively. A professor of these institutions who is also a staff
member of HIL must be willing to act as promotor.
 
Necessary qualifications are an MA degree, and a proven interest in
research into, as well as knowledge of, at least one area of
generative grammar. Candidates who obtain a degree before 1 September,
1996, may also apply.
 
Grants are awarded towards the promotion of NLG 30,000,= per year (at
Leiden University) or of NLG 25,200= (at Amsterdam).  Income tax is
deduced from this amount. Contingent on good progress, the grant is
awarded for four years maximally. A grant will, in principle, only be
awarded to candidates who have obtained their MA not longer than five
years ago. Every graduate student will become part of HIL's training
and supervision programme.
 
Applications for grants should be accompanied by a research proposal,
a CV, names, addresses, fax and e-mail addresses of three references,
a copy of the MA diploma with all results, a copy of the Master's
Thesis, and, if possible, other relevant written documentation
(papers, articles). Applications from abroad are, of course, welcome.
