We'd like to remind readers that the responses to queries are usually
best posted to the individual asking the question. That individual is
then strongly encouraged to post a summary to the list. This policy was
instituted to help control the huge volume of mail on LINGUIST; so we
would appreciate your cooperating with it whenever it seems appropriate.

A colleague from the Dept of Linguistics, Thammasat University,
Bangkok, will be visiting scholar at U of Texas at Austin, 15 Jan - 10
April. She urgently requires reasonably priced accommodation during
this period (none found to date). Any offers or suggestions (board,
guest houses, hotels, apartments, hostels) most welcome.

Subject: Question: Computers and Language Testing

My colleague and I are working on a research project involving
computer-mediated testing of oral production in a foreign language. We
have found that up to now most work in computer- adaptive testing has
concerned the areas of grammar and writing and reading skills. We
would be most grateful to hear from anyone doing research involving
computers and the testing of oral skills. We would also appreciate
any relevant references since our bibliography on this particular
aspect of CAT is quite limited. We would gladly post a summary of our
responses. Thanking you in advance,

Maxine Lipson

I'm a professor at the University of Valladolid, and I'm writing my
Doctoral Dissertation on metaphor translation. Before being able to
complete my database, I need more bibliography on text types, if
possible applied to tranlation. I only know the classics -Reiss,
Beaugrande, and a few more. Can somebody help me? Thanks in
advance!!!!
