Subject:        Growth of German as a Foreign Language
 
Fellow Linguists:
 
I am interested in the influence of a major German business concern
(e.g. BMW, Siemens, Bosch, VW) in a particular geographic area on the
demand for German as a FL(GAFL) in that area.  Most generally, I
assume that the establishment of a branch of a German firm would
increase the demand for GAFL in the public and private schools in that
area for both children and adults. For example, I assume that
potential employees (natives of the area) might want to learn German
in order to be better qualified for a position with the
company. Additionally, public schools might begin to offer more German
classes.  I'm in the processes of refining my study and narrowing its
scope and would appreciate advice in this area. Also, I'd like leads
on similar research, case studies, or specific literature on this
topic.  If you can offer me information, please contact me at:
