Since the question comes up occasionally, it seems worthwhile to
post this to the List: The Summer Institute of Linguistics has a set of
IBM-compatible -- or specifically Windows-compatible -- IPA fonts
that it distributes at minimal cost. Here are the terrestial and electronic
addresses to which to inquire:

Welcome to browse large document collections that are automatically
organized by the novel WEBSOM method (including Usenet newsgroup sci.lang).
An ordered map of the information space is provided: similar documents lie
near each other on the map. The order helps in finding related documents
once any interesting document is found.

A system for browsing the 4900 articles that have appeared in the Usenet
newsgroup comp.ai.neural-nets since June 19, 1995 was made available in
the following WWW address on January 19, 1996.

	http://websom.hut.fi/websom/

Today we have also made available maps of the groups "sci.lang" and
"sci.cognitive", however, without labeling.

The WEBSOM home pages contain an article describing the WEBSOM method
and documentation of the system. The demonstration requires a graphical
WWW browser (such as Mosaic or Netscape), but the documentation can
also be read with other browsers.

The method is based on Self-Organizing Maps (SOMs). A category map of
words is automatically created in the first phase to enable the
exceptionally detailed statistical full-text analysis of the documents.

We plan to release the full WEBSOM software in not too distant future.
