               Final call for papers
conference: DEVELOPING DISCOURSE-AWARENESS in CROSS-CULTURAL CONTExTS
Popowo near WARSAW, POLAND,       May 9-11th, 1996
The conference addresses issues in cross-cultural communication and
applied discourse analysis. The following themes are suggested:
- discourse skills and cultural competence;
- acquisition and development of discourse skills;
- cros-cultural variation in discourse patterns and expectations;
- proficiency in discourse skills: national standards and attitudes;
- ethnocentric bias in discourse;
- critical discourse analysis;
- public discourses (media, corporate and business);
- discourse, social control and dominance;
- teaching discourse skills;
- West-East contacts (with special reference to the reception of
Western general and communicative values in Central and East Europe.
 
Invited speakers: F. Danes (the Czech Republic), E. Winter (UK),
N. Fairclough (UK), D.Preston (USA), R. Singh (Canada), S. Cmejrkova
(the Czech Republic), St. Grucza (Poland), St. Gajda (Poland).
 
The conference will be held in English. Session papers will be 20min
long. Abstracts can be submitted till the end of FEBRUARY 1996 (150
words). They can be mailed or faxed:

The conference fee is 160 US dollars. This includes accommodation and
food during the conference and transportation from Warsaw to Popowo and
back (25 min by coach). The conference will start Thursday afternoon
and finish Saturday afternoon.
 
A preliminary programme will be available in mid-May.

Le CERLICO tiendra son dixieme colloque annuel a l'Universite de TOURS les
vendredi 7 et samedi 8 Juin 1996.
 
 
Le theme de cette reunion sera la seconde partie du theme bisannuel :
 
            Absence de marque et representation de l'absenc.
 
Les communicants disposeront de trente minutes suivies de questions et
discussions.
 
 
Les actes du colloques seront publies comme chaque annee dans les Travaux
Linguistiques du CerLiCo (Presse Universitaire de Rennes). 8 volumes sont
deja parus, sur l'auxiliaire (1 et 2), l'adverbe (3 et 4), la subordination
(5 et 6), l'interrogation (7 et 8).
