Subject:  Conference: Theoretical Issues in Sign Language Research
 
The Fifth International Conference on Theoretical Issues in Sign
Language Research, co-sponsored by McGill University and the
University of Quebec at Montreal (UQAM), will take place at UQAM from
the19th to the 22nd of September 1996. The program includes over 70
presentations in the form of plenary lectures, panel discussions and
poster sessions. General topics to be covered during the meeting
include phonology, morphology, syntax, semantics, psycholinguistics,
sociolinguistics, and language acquisition.
 
Invited speakers include Sam Supalla and Jennie Singleton (Effects of
sign language fluency on literacy development), Elissa Newport (TBA)
and Sue Bailey and Kathy Dolby (The Canadian Dictionary of
ASL). Special sessions and round-table discussions will be held on the
cross-linguistic study of sign language acquisition, literacy,
notation and technology and special symposia and workshops will be
held on topics in lexicography, sociolinguistics, phonology and syntax
.
 
Registration for the Conference includes the reception, coffee breaks,
conference kit, Program and Abstract Book, and all conference
sessions. The cost of the Sunday Morning Silent Brunch must be paid
separately from the conference fee. To attend the Conference, please

of $25.00 will be charged to cover the cost of processing the
request. After August 15, 1996, refund requests will not be accepted.

signposted. The workshop will take place on the second floor.
