                        NATURAL LANGUAGE ENGINEERING
 
A research position is to be filled in the Natural Language Processing
research group from October 1996. The position is associated with a
EU financed project and will be full time for 24 months, with prospects
for an extension. The position is open to citizens from any EU- or
associated country.
 
The project aims at developing a system which allows citizens easier access
to their pension information which is stored in multiple databases.
At OFAI, the development of a German language access component
is one of the central tasks.
 
The candidate should have a university degree in computer science or
computational linguistics, experience in the field of natural language
processing and in LISP programming is required. Knowledge of German is
expected, a native speaker would be preferred.
 
Salary will be in the range of 30000 ECU per year (before taxes).
 
OFAI is the leading Austrian research institute in AI and Natural Language

The German Research Center for Artificial Intelligence (DFKI GmbH) is
currently seeking research scientists to join the Computational
Linguistics Lab in Saarbruecken, Germany. The successful candidates
will work on different projects in the areas of information access and
navigation, message extraction and understanding, controlled language
checking, and grammar engineering. The candidates should have a
background in the development of research or application prototypes.
 
Applicants should have a degree in computational linguistics, computer
science or linguistics, and competence in several of the following
areas:
 
Programming: C, C++, Perl, Java, Lisp, Windows-programming (APIs, DLLs)
 
Computational linguistics: multilingual grammar development, German
     lexicography, syntax or semantics, corpus analysis
 
NLP-Technology: parsing, finite state technology, statistical
     methods, machine learning methods, database applications,
     information retrieval
 
Applications: Information extraction, information retrieval,
     WWW-applications, testing and evaluation of NLP applications

de un puesto de trabajo para un lingu'ista computacional en el
proyecto de elaboraci'on de un Corpus de Referencia del Espannol
 
Descripci'on del puesto
 
Este puesto requiere una gran capacidad pr'actica y te'orica en el
'ambito lingu'istico computacional. Es imprescindible que el candidato
tenga fuertes y demostrables conocimientos de programaci'on de
aplicaciones en el 'area de la tecnolog'ia de la lengua. Por lo tanto
est'a familiarizado con los fundamentos de la inform'atica te'orica
como tambi'en con la linguistica general. El candidato debe poseer una
titulaci'on de lingu'ista computacional.  Se tendr'a en cuenta
tambi'en titulaciones de inform'atico o linguista con fuertes
conocimientos de ling=F9u'istica o inform'atica, respectivamente y en
este orden de preferencia. El candidato debe disponer de una
demostrable experiencia en el desarrollo de programas bajo el entorno
UNIX/AIX. Se valorar'a especialmente conocimientos en el an'alisis
autom'atico morfosint'actico como tambi'en en el an'alisis de grandes
corpus textuales.  Es imprescindible tambi'en la capacidad del
candidato de integrarse plenamente en un equipo de otros lingu'istas
computacionales e inform'aticos responsables del desarrollo de
herramientas de an'alisis lingu'istico para el espannol.
 
 
La duraci'on del contrato ser'a de 18 meses aproximadamente. La
remuneraci'on se calcular'a en funci'on de las calificaciones y de la
experiencia del candidato. La ejecuci'on del trabajo tiene lugar en la
misma sede de la academia. Es imprescindible la r'apida incorporaci'on
del candidato en el equipo de trabajo.
