Subject:        Australian universities: handing out questionnaires
 
 
For my thesis I am doing some research on "university guidelines for
bias-free language usage". As Australian universities seem to have the
most explicit ones, I would be highly interested in analysing those -
among others - in my thesis as well. At the moment I am preparing a
questionnaire on the topic: Informants should (a) describe their own
identity on the basis of ethnicity, national origin, age, marital
status etc. (in order to see which labels they use to describe
themselves) and (b) categorize a number of terms (like "(the)
handicapped" - "(the) disabled" - "people with disabilities" etc.) as
"offensive", "ones I can/could live with" or "ones I (would) like to
be called".  I am looking for UNIVERSITY MEMBERS of the UNIVERSITY OF
SOUTH AUSTRALIA, the UNIVERSITY OF NEW SOUTH WALES or the UNIVERSITY
OF TECHNOLOGY, SYDNEY - or simply any Australian university (where
"guidelines for bias-free usage" are in use), who would be interested
in helping me realizing this project and handing out the questionnaire
to a class of students.  For those interested I will certainly provide
more detailed information and a copy of the questionnaire.  Thanks.
