We'd like to remind readers that the responses to queries are usually
best posted to the individual asking the question. That individual is
then strongly encouraged to post a summary to the list. This policy was
instituted to help control the huge volume of mail on LINGUIST; so we
would appreciate your cooperating with it whenever it seems appropriate.

Dear linguists,

Friends of mine who do not have access to the net are
wandering if there exists a software to simulate the
evolution of words. For example, entering a latin word
and classical evolution rules, you could obtain the
possible french word(s) derived from it.
Have you ever heard of such tool ?

Thank you for responses,

Can anyone tell me where (and possibly the exact dates of when) the NWAV
meeting will be next October?

Thanks,

I am interested in exploring the differences in the ways that
non-native speakers of English use intonation in English and
would be grateful for any information or references on this topic.

My primary interest is in the way speakers of Mandarin and Cantonese
use intonation and I am using a model of intonation drawn from Brazil's
work on discourse intonation.

If there is sufficient interest I will post a summary in due course.

Many thanks.
