There are seven grants available at the
 
INSTITUTE FOR LOGIC, LANGUAGE, AND COMPUTATION
 
ILLC is a research institute of the University
of Amsterdam based in the Department of Mathematics,
Computer Science, Physics, and Astronomy (WINS), the Department
of Philosophy (FdW), and the Department of Arts (FdL).
 
ILLC invites students to apply for a grant to prepare for
a Ph.D. in one of the following areas:
 
Logic, Computer Science, Philosophy of Language
 
ILLC's  PhD students take part in the curriculum of the Dutch Graduate
School in Logic, which operates on a national scale. The research
should lead to the completion of a Ph.D.-Thesis. Applicants
should have completed an* MA in Mathematics, Philosophy,
Computer Science, Cognitive Science or other relevant area.

 V SIMPOSIO INTERNACIONAL DE COMUNICACION SOCIAL
 CENTRO DE LINGUISTICA APLICADA, SANTIAGO DE CUBA
                  22-24 DE ENERO DE 1997
El Centro de Linguistica Aplicada del Ministerio de Ciencia, Tecnologia y
Medio Ambiente en Santiago de Cuba, la Asociacion de Linguistas de Cuba, la
Universidad de Oriente y el Instituto Superior de Ciencias Medicas, convocan
al V Simposio Internacional de Comunicacion Social que se celebrara en esta
ciudad del 22 al 24 de enero de 1997. En este evento de caracter internacional

    - Investigaciones relacionadas con el "Cry Analysis"
    - Aplicaciones del Analisis, Sintesis y Reconocimiento de Voz
    - Equipos y dispositivos que puedan ser aplicados a los analisis acus-
      ticos y en la ayuda a discapacitados (impedidos auditivos)
    - Inteligencia Artificial vinculada al procesamiento de voz
4.  Especialidades medicas vinculadas al habla y la voz y en general, con la
    Comunicacion Social
    - Logopedia y Foniatria, Neurologia, Otorrinolaringologia, Estomatolo-
      gia, Psiquiatria Infantil, Pediatria
    - Investigaciones relacionadas con el "Cry Analysis" para ayudar en el
      diagnostico de enfermedades del Sistema Nervioso Central
5.  Medios masivos de difusion
    - Investigaciones linguisticas relacionadas con el habla de los locuto-
      res de radio y television
    - Analisis textuales de programas radiales y televisivos asi como de
      articulos de la prensa escrita
6.  Etnologia y Folklore
    - Estudios de esta especialidad relacionados con la Comunicacion Social
