Teaching position in Korea,
 
The Language Research Center of Chonnam National University is
seeking qualified EFL teachers as follows.
 
1. Qualifications: Ph. D. or Master's in TESL/TEFL or in any
related fields.  Native or near-native speakers of English.
ESL/EFL experience preferred. TESL certificate holders also
encouraged to apply.
 
2. Job description: Instructors teach three EFL classes per day
for a total of 15 classroom hours per week, up to 20 hours,
and help out with some administrative duties of about five hours
a week such as interviewing and counseling. Instructors have the
opportunity to teach an extra class per day for a total of 3-5
overtime hours per week with extra pay. They are encouraged to
become involved in program development, curriculum and materials
development, and classroom research as well as publish and present
at academic conventions.
 
In addition to regular EFL classes, the University sometimes
provides community support to schools in the surrounding area.
Instructors have the opportunity to conduct teacher training
seminars for and consult with teachers in the Korean school
system and at other colleges and universities. Such additional
work is paid overtime.
 
3.  Language levels and length of teaching sessions:  There are
six 7-week sessions per year beginning in January, March, May,
July, September, November with approx. one week between sessions.
The first dates of the sessions in 1996 are January 8, March 4,
April 29, June 24, September 2, October 28.  Adult English
classes range from level 1 to level 6, beginner to advanced.
Children's classes range from level 1 to level 6, beginner to
high intermediate 5th and 6th graders. Intensive English course
is offered for intermediate level adults.
 
4. Salary: For 15 hours per week, 630 contact hours per year,
the salary is 15,000,000 won per year (approx. U.S.$18,000 to
19,000). Overtime pay is 20,000 won per hour approx. U.S.$25.
The salary varies in accordance with the qualification.
 
5. Benefits: Teachers are provided with a private room in a
furnished, shared apartment on campus; medical and dental
coverage for U.S.$20/month; 6 weeks paid vacation in December
and August; several days off between 7 week sessions; approx.
U.S.$400 initial settlement allowance upon arrival tax exemption
under current Korean tax laws for the U.S. citizens.  Assistant
professorships and an extra approx. U.S.$200 per month is provided
to Ph.D. degree holders.
 
6. Location: Chonnam National University with 25,000 students is
the major research university in Kwangju city (pop. 1.3 mil.)
located about 300 kilometers away from Seoul.
 
7. Internship: MA TESL candidates who need to fulfill internship
requirements for their degrees may participate in a supervised
teaching practicum for one or two sessions.  Interns are given
round-trip airfare and a home stay (room and board) with a Korean
family.
 
8. Children's class: We are also looking for the teachers with
specialization in child education, whether with MA or BA.
