Duties:
Incumbent is responsible for planning and implementing assigned
historical research projects on the Nuremberg and post-World War
II national trials assigned by the Senior Historian. Evaluates
and conducts field research in historical sources and archival
repositories. Prepares "in-depth" briefs about postwar trials
and the Holocaust. Reviews historical narratives, facts, and
interpretive material. Compiles and prepares special
bibliographies and chronologies. Summarizes or abstracts
historical information and translates and annotates relevant
sources on World War II and the Holocaust from German into
English language and verifies the accuracy of transcribed
materials.
Qualifications:
1. Knowledge of 20th century European, German and American
history.
2. Fluent knowledge of the German language and reading
knowledge of a second European language.
3. Knowledge of historical research methods, sources and
documentation/presentation standards.
4. Strong organizational and research skills, including the
ability to plan and complete lengthy narrative texts for
potential publication.
5. Knowledge of relevant library and archival collections.
6. Ability to deal diplomatically with scholars, lay publics,
and designated consultants.
7. Knowledge of computers, including word processing software,
and data and text base programs.
Salary Range:
GS-9 Equivalent ($30,658 - $39,858 per annum)

Duties:
Incumbent is responsible for conducting archival film research.
Locates, screens, evaluates and selects historical film footage.
Orders footage on behalf of the museum as needed. Creates and
maintains detailed records of film and video materials research
and/or ordered. Provides film and video research assistance to
museum staff and outside callers. Serves as the Department's
liaison to other museum departments and to the public.
Researches departmental needs for information and acquisition of
historical footage in outside archives. Develops finding aids
and guides to the holdings of the Film and Video Archive.
Provides research required for cataloging and database records of
the Film & Video collections. Supports the work of the Director
and the Department of Film and Video.
Qualifications:
1. Knowledge of fundamental archival principles, theoretical
concepts, and techniques.
2. Knowledge and experience in stock footage research with
specific experience pertaining to World War II and the
Holocaust.
3. Ability to understand and interpret the images and
historical context and the moving images of documentary
footage.
4. Knowledge and experience of technical requirements for
duplication of archival footage; and of placing orders.
5. Good writing skills for interpretation and presentation of
research.
6. Familiarity with the National Archives and other film
archive collections and libraries in the U.S. and abroad.
7. Excellent organizational skills.
8. Working knowledge of the German language.
9. Knowledge of and ability to use personal computers,
including various databases.
Salary Range:
GS-11 Equivalent ($37,094 - $48,222 per annum)

University of Fribourg / Institut pratique d'anglais (IPA)
Applications are invited for the full-time post of
=ABLecteur/Lektor=BB in English as a Foreign Language, to begin 1st
September 1996. The post involves 15 hours of English teaching to
students and the general academic community at the
University. Preference will be given to candidates with a working
knowledge of German or French (preferably both) and experience of
teaching English for Academic Purposes. Applications should be sent to

include a full CV and the names of two referees.
'Personal' remarks:
This job is not as 'boring' as it may sound. It is a job that leaves a
lot of room to an initiative, competent person because she/he will
have the chance to build up a university EFL institute almost on
his/her own. 15 hours of teaching are a maximum which may be reduced
in favor of research, curriculum development etc.

University Lecturer or Assistant Lecturer in Romance Philology in the
Faculty of Modern and Medieval Languages
Advertisement:
The Faculty invites applications for the post of University Lecturer
or University Assistant Lecturer in Romance Philology. The successful
candidate will be expected to contribute to the teaching of Romance
philology or Romance linguistics in the relevant Departments of the
Faculty. Preference will be given to candidates who have a particular
interest in Italian and are prepared to participate in the promotion
of Italian studies at both undergraduate and postgraduate level.
The successful applicant is expected to take up appointment on 1st of
October 1996 or as soon as possible thereafter.
University Assistant Lecturers are appointed for three years, with the
possibility of reappointment for two years. The statutory limit of
tenure of a University Assistant Lectureship is five years, but all
holders of the office of University Assistant Lecturer are considered
for possible appointment to the office of University Lecturer during
the course of their tenure. The pensionable scale of stipends is
15,154 a year, rising by six annual increments to 19,848.
University Lecturers are appointed for three years, with the
possibility of reappointment to the retiring age. The pensionable
scale of stipends is 18,294 a year, rising by eleven annual increments
to 28,215. There is no grade of Senior Lecturer.
