We'd like to remind readers that the responses to queries are usually
best posted to the individual asking the question. That individual is
then strongly encouraged to post a summary to the list. This policy was
instituted to help control the huge volume of mail on LINGUIST; so we
would appreciate your cooperating with it whenever it seems appropriate.

Is any language, past or present, known to have a uvular affricate? I
already know that Klingon does, but I'm asking about past and present,
not future }}};-)\ !

I am doing some research into the preposition 'with', and was
wondering if anyone has any suggestions for verbs which preclude
VP-attachment of 'with'. e.g. It seems that 'with' cannot be attached
to any case of 'know':

* With ease, John knew the woman.
* With Sally, John knew the woman.
* With a telescope, John knew the woman.

Does anyone have any counterexamples to this, or examples of other
similar verbs?

Please reply directly to

Thanks.
