The Department of English at Purdue University is seeking a
candidate for a tenure track position in the following area,
beginning August 1997.
 
Assistant Professor in English as a Second Language (no more than
three years experience in a tenure-track position).  Ph.D. in ESL
or related field to teach and develop graduate and undergraduate
courses.  Specialization in one or more of the following
required: 1. assessment, 2. research design, and 3. second
language acquisition.  Experience with ITA or other special
programs desirable.  Possible future administrative and teacher
preparation responsibilities.  Teaching experience and
publication desirable.
 
Doctoral degree must be completed by August, 1997.  Salary
competitive.  Teaching load is four courses per academic year.

recommendation addressing candidate's undergraduate teaching and

TENURE-TRACK ASSISTANT PROFESSOR POSITION IN FRENCH
 
The Department of French and Italian at the University of
Minnesota invites applications for a nine-month, 100%
tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant Professor,
beginning September 16, 1997.
 
We seek an individual to teach at all levels (for example,
history of French, language and society, phonetics, language
variation), and direct French language programs in collaboration
or rotation with other faculty.  Must have ability to pursue a
rigorous program of research, as well as a demonstrated interest
in second language acquisition or instruction.
 
QUALIFICATIONS: Ph.D. (or foreign equivalent) in French
linguistics or a related field, with an interest in language and
society.  Native or near-native fluency in French is required.
Desirable qualifications: Experience in TA training and
supervision, curriculum development, and program administration.
Applicants will be expected to have the Ph.D. (or its foreign
equivalent) by 9/16/97.
