   Faculty Support Specialist in Languages and  Linguistics
 
 
Academic Computing Services of Georgetown University is seeking a
Faculty Support Specialist to help the Faculty of Languages and
Linguistics incorporate technology into their teaching and
research.  The Faculty, who currently provide instruction in
fifteen languages, have access to the tools and resources of a
new high-speed network as well as a Language Learning Technology
Lab that provides satellite broadcasts, audio-visual tapes, and
software for CALL, authoring systems, and multimedia/Web
production.
 
The primary responsibility of the Faculty Support Specialist will
be to help faculty select and learn relevant technologies, to
propose pedagogical strategies for implementing them, and to help
develop new instructional software programs and information
resources.
 
Within Academic Computing Services (www.georgetown.edu/acs) this
Specialist will be a member of the Research, Curriculum, and
Development Group and will work closely with the Supervisor of
the Language Learning Technology Lab and other members of the
User Services staff.
 
The ideal candidate will have the following qualifications: an
advanced degree (Ph.D. preferred) in a foreign/second language,
foreign/second language education, linguistics, applied
linguistics, instructional technology, or educational psychology;
language teaching experience; demonstrated expertise in
integrating analog and digital technologies into teaching and
research; skills in designing instructional materials, selecting
and evaluating courseware, and doing research in an electronic
environment; faculty-support experience in a library, computing
center, or language lab; experience in the development of
multimedia and/or Web resources; a demonstrable service
orientation; experience in writing grant proposals; and strong
interpersonal and communication skills.

Assistant Prof Speech-Lang Path: A tenure-track position is
available in the Department of Hearing and Speech Sciences (ESB-
accredited) at the University of Maryland, College Park.
 
Qualifications: earned doctorate required in speech-language
pathology, cognitive psychology, or related area; teaching
experience and post-doctoral training preferred, CCC-SLP
desirable.  Applicants should demonstrate a publication record
and favorable teaching evaluations. Expertise preferred in adult
communication processes and disorders with demonstrated potential
for developing an independent research program in this general
area.
 
Responsibilities include conducting research, teaching
undergraduate and graduate courses in motor speech disorders,
aphasia, and neurolinguistics, mentoring graduate students in
research projects, and participating in departmental and
university activities.
 
Salary is negotiable, depending upon qualifications and
experience.  Starting date: August, 1997.
 
The department offers B.A., M.A., and Ph.D. degrees and is the
largest communication disorders program in the state of Maryland.
The College Park campus is located in the Baltimore-Washington
metropolitan area in close proximity to numerous world-renowned
medical institutions and research facilities including the
National Institutes of Health, Veterans Medical Center, Walter
Reed Army Medical Center, Johns Hopkins University, and the
