The University of Washington.
 
The Department of Asian Languages and Literature seeks to appoint
a full-time lecturer of Japanese. The initial appointment,
starting Autumn Quarter 1997, is for up to three years, with the
possibility of renewal, subject to the availability of funding.
Applicants should have at least the M.A. degree in Japanese,
Language Pedagogy, Applied Linguistics, or relevant fields with
proficiency-based language teaching experience.  Applicants
should be capable of teaching modern Japanese at any level, and
be willing to train and evaluate graduate student teaching
assistants as well as develop new curricula and classroom
materials. Send applications, including a curriculum vitae,
statement of teaching interest, sample teaching video tape
demonstrating teaching ability, three letters of recommendation
to Chair, Japanese Search Committee, Department of Asian
Languages and Literature, Box 353521, University of Washington,
Seattle, WA 98195-3521.  Priority will be given to applications
received before February 1, 1997. The University of Washington is
building a multicultural faculty and strongly encourages

Assistant Professor of TESL and Applied Linguistics.  Tenure
track.  Ph.D. and public school ESL teaching experience strongly
preferred; ABD and ability to teach introductory linguistics,
academic ESL, SLA theory, TESL methodology, applied linguistics

      University,
Bloomington invites applications for the following position:
 
        Director of Language Instruction for Fall 1997.
        Associate or
Advanced Assistant Professor in Spanish with specialization in
second language acquisition.  Tenured or tenure-track position.
Duties include: coordinating first and second-year language
courses, training graduate assistants, teaching at the
undergraduate and graduate levels, and directing dissertations.
Publications and strong teaching record essential.  Native or
near-native proficiency required.  OPI certification desirable.
