The University of California, Los Angeles invites
applications/nominations for a tenured or tenure-track position in any
field of the Humanities or Social Sciences relating to Southeast
Asia. This position, made possible through the generous support of the
Luce Foundation, is intended to expand the University's teaching and
research activities in Southeast Asian Studies. We seek a scholar with
demonstrated distinction and strong future potential in research & a
strong commitment to undergraduate education. The ideal candidate
should have broad regional interests in Southeast Asia and be able to
link the study of Southeast Asian culture with the theory,
methodologies, and knowledge of a disciplinary field. We also prefer a
dynamic program builder, who will help coordinate UCLA's growing
programs in South and Southeast Asian Studies and contribute to
interdisciplinary dialogue with colleagues throughout the
univ. Ph.D. expected upon appointment. Appointment to begin July 1,
1997. Send letter of application, vita, statement of research &
teaching interests, selected publications, and arrange at least 3
letters of recommendation, to Robert Buswell, Chair, Southeast Asia
