CALL FOR PAPERS
1997 Australasian Natural Language Processing Summer Workshop
Saturday 8th February 1997
Macquarie University, Sydney, Australia
Purpose
This year we are again organizing a one-day workshop on Natural
Language Processing, timed to immediately follow the Australian
Computer Science Conference which is also being held at Macquarie
University. The goals of the workshop are to further establish the
growing NLP community in Australia and New Zealand, and to provide an
opportunity for the broader computer science community to become aware
of local NLP research. Our hope is to get as many Australasian NLPers
together as possible to see where things are currently at; ideally
every active project and research team (and teams can be very small!)
would be represented. Additionally, we are delighted to be able to
have Professor Kathy McKeown from Columbia University as a keynote
speaker at the workshop.
We invite the submission of papers on all aspects of natural language
processing, including, but not limited to, speech understanding and
generation; phonology, morphology, syntax, semantics, pragmatics, and
discourse; interpreting and generating spoken and written language;
linguistic, mathematical, and psychological models of language;
language-oriented information extraction and retrieval; corpus-based
and statistical language modeling; machine translation and translation
aids; natural language interfaces and dialogue systems; message and
narrative understanding systems; and computational lexicography.
We particularly welcome papers from postgraduate students working in
the area.
Organising Committee
Robert Dale, Microsoft Research Institute, Macquarie University;
Christopher Manning, University of Sydney; and Cecile Paris, CSIRO,
Sydney.
Submission Format
Initial submissions should be in the form of four-page extended
abstracts, printed single spaced in 12 point font. The first page
should include the paper title, author(s) name(s), complete addresses
including email address and fax number, and a short (5 line)
summary. Submissions may be either hardcopy or electronic; fax
submissions are not acceptable.
Electronic Submission
Electronic submissions of ASCII, MIME-encoded Word (7 or 5 for Mac),
PDF, Postscript, self-contained Latex2e, or HTML files should be sent
to cmanning at mail.usyd.edu.au. Please submit electronic files ahead of
the submission date so that we can be sure that they are printable; if
we cannot print your file by the submission date it will be rejected
without review.
Hard Copy Submission
Four copies of the paper should be sent to:
