Melbourne Research Scholarship
 
The Department of Linguistics and Applied Linguistics is calling
for applications for one the new Faculty of Arts "Melbourne Research
Scholarships (Faculty Based)" for study at postgraduate level.
 
This scholarship is specifically targeted for award in the area of
Computational Linguistics.
 
Eligibility
- ---------
 
Students intending to undertake, or who are currently enrolled for, a
Masters by Research degree or a Ph.D. may apply.  The degree must have
a research (thesis) component of 66% for an applicant to be considered
for a scholarship.  The awards are available for up to two years for a
Masters by Research degree or up to three and a half year for a Ph.D.
degree.
 
The scholarship will to be awarded on the basis of academic merit and
evidence of high research potential.  It is also available to overseas
students, provided they meet the University of Melbourne English Language
requirements.  Applicants will normally require a first class honours
degree or equivalent.  Work experience, professional and other relevant
qualifications; publications; and other evidence of outstanding creativity
in the area of proposed research will also be considered.

The scholarship will be available as of 1997.  The current stipend is
AU$15,000.
