                       Announcing
Workshop "Formal Semantics and Pragmatics of Dialogue"
	          University of Munich
		    March 10-12 1997

Invited Speakers:
1) Jonathan Ginzburg (Hebrew University, Jerusalem)
2) Jeroen Groenendijk (University of Amsterdam)
3) Henk Zeevat (University of Amsterdam)

The past years saw an increasing interest in attempts to apply formal
methods from different fields to dialogue phenomena, where possible
worlds semantics, DRT, situation theory, dynamic semantics, channel
theory, and game theory served as starting points. The workshop aims
at bringing together researchers from the mentioned and may be other
fields.

Abstracts are invited for 30 minute presentations (with 10 additional
minutes for discussion) on any topic related to formal semantics and
pragmatics of dialogue. Potential topics include, but are not limited
to:

- The nature of the common ground in communication

- Characterization of agents information states

- The role and specification of extra-linguistic context

- Updates of both common ground and agents information states

- The interface between "dialogue syntax" and "dialogue semantics"

- The interpretation of sub-sentential expressions under the
perspective of dialogue

- Similarities between human and non-human communication

- Partiality of mutual knowledge of the dialogue participants

Please send two anonymous abstracts (no more than two a4 or 8 1/2" by
11" pages in a 12 pt proportional font, possibly with an additional
page for figures and references) together with a card specifying
