        Applications are invited for a Lectureship in English in the
Faculty of Humanities of this national university, tenable from 1st April,
1997.  Applicants should be native English speakers (British English
preferred) under the age of 35 and have a Master's degree in English,
Linguistics or English Education. A relevant higher degree would be an
additional recommendation.
 
The successful applicant will  be appointed on an annual renewable contract
and will contribute to undergraduate and graduate programmes in English
language and literature, including the supervision of dissertations.
 
Salary, depending on age, qualifications and relevant experience, will be
on a scale from about 5 - 7 million yen annually. (ca. #30,000 - #40,000,
$45,000 - $65,000). Housing, with basic furniture, is provided at a nominal
rent.

The Center for Sprogteknologi (file://cst.ku.dk/www/home.html) in
Copenhagen, Denmark, has a position available for a research assistant
(computer scientist or engineer) effective as soon as possible.
 
The Center for Sprogteknologi is a sector research institute under the
Ministry of Research.  The Center's activities include research,
development and consultancy within the area of language technology.
The Center has about 20 employees, all with backgrounds in various
aspects of linguistics, computer science, and computational linguistics.
 
The position to be filled comprises participation in the Center's
research and development projects and participation in daily
maintenance and development of the Center's computer resources.
 
Currently the Center has research and development projects in machine
translation (including specification of common interfaces to multiple
translation systems), electronic dictionaries for natural language
processing, interfaces to lexical databases, spelling correction
programs, semantics, Danish grammar, i.a.
 
The Center's computer resources are HP and Sun based Unix systems,
X-terminals and PCs, all connected via a local area network.
Development plans for the installation include extension of the PC
network with an NT server and installation of a web server on the Unix
gateway.
 
Qualifications
 
Applicants should be familiar with PC and Unix environments, and
should have experience with database and interface development
(especially on PCs), as well as general programming experience.
 
Applicants will be preferred who can formulate themselves well in
written English, and who are able to propose and execute tasks
independently.  Knowledge of Danish is not a requirement for foreign
applicants, however as Danish is the day-to-day working language,
applicants must either be proficient in Danish or willing to take
Danish language courses to achieve adequate proficiency.
 
A Ph.D. degree is preferred, but not required.
 
Salary
 
Employment conditions and salary are subject to agreements between the
Danish state and the unions.  In addition to the base salary, a
standard salary bonus is offered to all employees which per April 1,
1996, is 2,117.77 Dkr. per month.  Individual salary bonuses are also
available dependent on the applicant's qualifications.
