The Universidad de las Americas - Puebla, Mexico, invites applications
for a full-time position on the faculty of the Language Department and
the MA Program in Applied Linguistics (subject to availability of
funds).  The successful candidate will have a Ph.D. (in hand) in
applied linguistics (or related discipline), will be an active
researcher and graduate teacher in the area of second language
teaching (e.g. methods, curriculum design, teacher training) and will
also be able to teach basic linguistics courses (e.g. introduction,
syntax, phonology, morphology) as well as second language courses at
the BA level (preferably French or Italian).  Candidates with related
areas of expertise will be considered.  The position will require a
commitment to research and publication in the area, and, for
non-fluent speakers of Spanish, to the achievement of professional
competence in this language.
 
Appointments (initially for one year, but renewable) will begin in
January 1997.  Benefits include car and possibility of subsidized
on-campus housing.  Rank and salary commensurate with experience and

Assistant Professor of Linguistics
 
The Department of English at Old Dominion University announces a
tenure-track position at the assistant professor level beginning
August 15, 1997. We are seeking a Ph.D. in linguistics (preferably in
hand) to teach undergraduate linguistics courses and graduate courses
in the MA in Applied Linguistics and TESOL program.  Candidates must
submit evidence of excellence in teaching.  Experience in TESOL
teacher training highly desirable, and the research specialization
